Requirements
- A level, Grade 11 or equivalent,
- Plus GCSEs at grade C/grade 4 or above in English language, science and mathematics: alternatives at Level 2 may be considered. Mature applicants with relevant experience but without the stated qualifications will be considered individually and are encouraged to apply.

HNC Health, Welfare & Social Sciences is designed for individuals wishing to study health and social care in the community. It is for one year at Level 4 and is the first year of a foundation or honours degree.
The modules studied include Sociological Perspectives, Professional Practice, Developmental Psychological, Safeguarding & Promotion of Welfare, Equality, Diversity & Rights, Health, Welfare & Social Policy.
You will be given the opportunity to enhance your knowledge base as the emphasis is on supporting future careers in the health and social care field and for further study.
The programme provides a wide range of teaching styles, assessment and work-related learning.
As part of your study you will be expected to undertake a minimum of 60 hours work related learning in a voluntary or paid capacity.
This should be in a health and social care environment. You will need to have a current Disclosure and Barring Service check in order to undertake this work.
The programme is over two days a week for one academic year. Students will benefit from the Health and Social Care department’s excellent links with agencies and organisations that specialise in health and community services and projects.
